Police widows grateful for PDU30 visit

LAOAG CITY—The families of slain police officers who fell due to the intensified drug war here were assured of government assistance courtesy of the Duterte administration.

Thirty-five year-old Evangelista Sadian, widow of PO3 Nestor Sadian said they are thankful for President Rodrigo R. Duterte who took a quick visit with them at the Laoag International Airport on October 14.

According to Mrs. Sadian, the President assured to give them financial assistance worth P250,000 each to be coursed through the Department of Interior and Local Government and for them to be included as beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilya program under the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Mrs. Sadian and Cheryll Sacatrapos, widow of PO3 Fernando Sacatrapos Jr., both from Paoay town met with the President as he visited Ilocos Norte in time for the launching of the Kailian March on October 14.

They were also joined by the parents of PO3 Omar Nacionales, one of the 44 soldiers of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Special Action Force (SAF) slain in the Mamasapano clash early last year.

"Hiningi ng presidente na ipakilala sa kanya yung mga nadali sa [The president asked to meet the families of those who died for the] drug war, dahil [because] he feels personally responsible," said Ilocos Norte governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” R. Marcos.

She also described him as "galit na galit na hindi nabigyan ng sapat na tulong [very angry because they were not given enough support]" regarding the family of PO3 Nacionales, "eh ang hinihingi lang naman nila, burias, at [and all they were asking for are piglets and] livelihood assistance. Sinabi ko naman na yung kaya namin, binibigay na namin, pero hindi naman natin kaya lahat ng trabaho. [I told him we already gave what we can but we cannot do it by ourselves].”

The identified police officers were among those outstanding policemen in the province who had been actively involved in the campaign against illegal drugs. Unfortunately, they perished while in line of duty.

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
