Agri engineers urge LGUS to strengthen engineering divisions

BATAC CITY—Agricultural engineers are vital for agriculture and fisheries modernization.

With this in mind, the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers (PSAE) is urging all local government units to strengthen its engineering units. They said the LGUs can do this by engaging the expertise of an agricultural engineer.

Within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the demand for registered agricultural engineers is very high. They are employed as researchers, extension workers, irrigation and drainage engineer, farm structure engineer, farm manager, farm-structure engineer, agri-fishery machinery engineer, environmental controls engineers, designer or manufacturer of agriculture machinery, rural electrification and power systems engineer, instructor, project manager, solar engineer and project consultant among others.

To keep abreast with the latest trends and technology breakthroughs on agriculture modernization, Engr. Genaro Tolentino, PSAE president said LGUs are also enjoined to take a positive outlook on how agricultural engineering works could help advance their masterplan for agricultural and economic development.

Attended by around 600 agricultural engineers nationwide, the PSAE hosted the 27^th Agricultural Engineering Week on April 24-30, 2016 at the Teatro Ilocandia of the Mariano Marcos State University in this city where each member was updated on the current trends of the agricultural engineering profession.

On April 10, 1989, former President Corazon C. Aquino declared the fourth week of April as “Philippine Agricultural Engineering Week” through Proclamation No. 399 Series of 1989.

With a theme, “Agricultural Engineers in the realm of sustainable green technology,” the weeklong celebration highlights series of lectures, exhibits, technology demonstrations, plenary and technical papers presentations.

Agricultural engineers and students from all over the country and from participating countries like Malaysia, Thailand, USA, Japan, Ethiopia and Indonesia are also present in the 7-day convention.

Aside from emphasizing the role agricultural engineers in the agricultural and economic development of the country, the activity also aims to showcase agricultural machineries and technologies available in the market through the exhibition and technology demonstrations.

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
