2 La Union HS graduates qualify for DOST undergraduate scholarship

The municipality of Bagulin, La Union is a beneficiary of the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) program of the Department of Science and Technology 1. One of the focus areas is basic education and literacy. Aiming to raise the awareness and level of knowledge of pupils/students on Science, Mathematics and English subjects, DOST has provided different interventions including Education equipment to the beneficiary schools namely Dagup Integrated School, Libbo Elementary School and Tagudtud Elementary and High Schools. On the other hand, software and trainings for teachers were extended throughout Bagulin District.

The challenge was to have at least one S&T Scholar in the community. To achieve this, CEST Staff with the help of teachers and Local Officials in Bagulin promoted DOST scholarships. Application forms for DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination were distributed to Integrated and High Schools all over Bagulin. “Syensiya-bilidad”, a review material designed by the Science Education Institute was provided to help them remember and master the concepts in solving and answering the questions asked to pass the examination. Developing One’s Skills in Test-taking exposes the agency’s goal to have more scientists and engineers in the future.

Two Bagulinian students qualified as new DOST RA 7687 scholars, out of 24 students who took the examination in September 2014. They are Noralyn G. Bugtong from Tagudtud National High School and Nikko S. Ofo-ob from Cambaly National High School. Ms. Bugtong, second honorable mention of their batch, raised at Brgy. Wallayan by farmer parents plans to take up BS Mathematics at Benguet State University. Mr. Ofo-ob, also in the top 10 of their batch in CNHS, aims to pursue a career in Information Technology. DOST Scholars will enjoy Tuition Fee, financial support, monthly stipend, book allowance and other benefits.

PGIN honors Ilocano heroes of past, present through Heroes Walk

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
