Dumalneg vies for national search for child-friendly municipalities

Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte—The Itneg agricultural municipality of Dumalneg, located at the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte is a finalist in the national search for Presidential Award for child-friendly municipalities in the Philippines.

Of the two cities and 21 municipalities in the province, Dumalneg has been nominated as one of the finalists in compliance to the mandatory audit for Day Care Center.

According to Lilian Rin, provincial social welfare and development officer said result of the evaluation is expected to be released anytime soon.

Pursuant to Executive Order No. 184 issued on December 13, 1999, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) established the Presidential Award for the Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities. The award is conferred on deserving local government units in recognition of their effort to promote and safeguard the rights of children.

In Region 1, the town of Dumalneg will represent Ilocos Norte this year. The provinces of La Union and Pangasinan have their own finalists, too.

For her part, Dumalneg Mayor Lairvee G. Espiritu has expressed gratitude for nominating their municipality as the lone representative for Ilocos Norte.

The CWC has been managing and coordinating the conferment of the Presidential Award since 1999.

Meant to recognize the role of Local Government Units (LGUs) in its effort to promote children’s rights to development, protection and participation, the criteria for evaluation include two sets of indicators such as institutional and service.

Institutional indicators include the presence of local councils for the protection of children, local legislative councils, local school and health boards, and health and nutritional system while service indicators are initiatives that generally support child health, maternal health, and development through education, protection of the child at work, protection of safe home, and participation of young voices.

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
