PGIN delivers supplies to typhoon Mario victims

Relief goods and construction materials distribution in Badoc, Ilocos Norte (Alaric Yanos)

Ilocos Norte Gov. Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos continued to lead the distribution of relief goods and home construction materials to Ilocano families affected by the devastation brought by Typhoon Mario (International name: Fung-Wong). 

“The typhoon has caused widespread damages, and right now we are doing the best we can to provide temporary aid to homes and families which were displaced,” Gov. Marcos stated.

Over P3 million worth of relief packs were already dispersed province-wide by the Provincial Government thru its Social Welfare and Development Office.

Thousands of food packs were distributed in every municipality. Three hundred and fifty relief packs were handed over by Gov. Marcos to the residents in six severely affected barangays in Piddig, Ilocos Norte: Abucay, Marwaya, Mangitayag, Libnaoan, Lubitak and Maab-abaca. Each pack contains rice grains, canned goods, biscuit, noodles, a bag of sugar and other ready to eat food products.  

Families in Marcos, Banna and Nueva Era whose houses were damaged were supplied with relief goods together with home repair materials. Baked products and recycled GI temporary roof sheets were also provided to the residents of Barangay Davila in Pasuquin on September 21.

A Philippine Air Force C-130 aircraft landed at the Laoag International Airport on September 21, 2014 carrying over 3,000 packs of relief goods from the National DSWD for distribution to disaster-stricken families.

“Aside from relief goods, we are also supplying GI sheets, lumber and nails for home repair,” Ms. Marcos added.

P2,005,460.50 worth of construction materials were already delivered to several municipalities in Ilocos Norte.

The province was placed under the state of calamity as typhoon Mario pummeled the region with strong winds and heavy rains, triggering another round of mass evacuation and destruction to infrastructure, agricultural crops and livelihood.

According to the latest report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Council (PDRRMC), more than P493,732, 526.16 worth of damage in agriculture and P204,332,832 damage in infrastructure were recorded.  The total estimated worth of destruction brought by Mario in Ilocos Norte is P665, 321, 264.94.

Ms. Imee Marcos is doing all necessary actions for the province’s early restoration. Recently, she met with agriculture stakeholders to develop plans for the speedy recovery of the agriculture industry which is the primary source of livelihood of Ilocano families.

“Agyamyaman kami ken ni Gobernadora Marcos gapu ti inpaayna nga tulong kadakami”, Arlene Ramones, 34, a resident of Barangay 20 in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, said.

Ms. Ramones and her family were one of those who were severely affected, their crops having been devastated by the calamity.

The province of Ilocos Norte seeks more support from the public on behalf of its affected communities in the form of any amount or kindness. Cash donations for the victims of the typhoon Mario in the Province of Ilocos Norte are now being accepted through the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) account #0545-011959-030 (PGIN Trust Fund) and personal remittance at the Provincial Treasury Office (PTO).
