OFCC annual convention set for June 14 2014

Community leaders, delegates from various Filipino unit organizations representing their respective group will be gathered at the Lanai Social Hall of the Philippine Consulate General 2433 Pali Highway, Honolulu, Hawaii on June 14, 2014 for the Oahu Filipino Community Council (OFCC) annual convention.

The theme for this year’s convention is “OFCC Is Alliance; Alliance Is OFCC”.

This convention may draw from 150 to 200 delegates from more than 40 unit organizations with OFCC affiliation. As anticipated, proposed bylaws amendment and resolutions will be part of this convention and deliberation.

OFCC leadership strives to work as a team for improvement and prosperity in keeping the Filipino traditions and cultural heritage.

Schedule of the program

7 am – 10 am: registration of delegates (delegates register in person)
9 am:  In her last term of two years, the convention will be called to order by OFCC President Jean Jeremiah, followed by the opening prayer by Rev. Alex Ravelo Vergara; then the singing the National anthem

Welcome remarks by Convention Chairman Jake Manegdeg

Followed by the introduction of the Keynote Speaker by Rev Vergara.

9:15 am: Keynote Speaker Atty. William Domingo will deliver his speech.


9:45 am: Initial report of the Registration & Credential Committee. Appointment of Convention officers: Parliamentarian, Timekeeper, Marshals.

Adoption of the 2014 Convention Agenda, Approval of the Convention rules; approval of the 2013 Convention Minutes.

The president will make her president’s annual report followed by the announcement of the “Top 10 Unit Organizations’ with Larry Ramirez.

The OFCC treasurer will make his report.

Report of the Nominations and Elections Committee by Danny Villaruz followed by secret balloting and then the canvassing and tallying ballots. Announcement of the Election results by Danny Villaruz and installation follow. Newly elected officers will assume their duties on July 1 to June 2015.

PIDS expert says income tax cuts justified; warns gov’t of revenue loss

Proposals to amend the personal income tax schedule appear to be well-justified. However, these proposals should include measures that will allow government to recover the revenue loss from lower income taxes. Dr. Rosario Manasan, senior research fellow of state think-tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), said at a seminar sponsored by the Philippine Senate, that government should look for new revenue measures to compensate for the projected revenue loss that will arise as a result of the implementation of any of the various proposals to restructure the personal income tax. Currently, there are several income tax reform proposals pending in both houses of Congress. All of them, according to Dr. Manasan, have the same objective of addressing the phenomenon of bracket creep, which results from “non-indexation to inflation of personal income tax brackets”. Lozano of Adams, Ilocos Norte receive a resolution of commendation, a certificate of college scholarship grant to their family members and a P20,000 cash incentive each from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte represented by Governor Imee R.
