DA helps put up P1-M water reservoir in Burgos, Ilocos Norte

BURGOS, Ilocos Norte—At least four units of additional water reservoir will be constructed to sustain the growth of plants at the ongoing development of an eco-farm located at the Dungon-dungon estate in this town.

The small water reservoir worth P250,000 each will be funded by the Department of Agriculture in support of the provincial government’s effort to uplift the living conditions of farmers particularly in providing alternative livelihood and job opportunities for local communities here through a public-private partnership agreement with outstanding Ilocos farmer-entrepreneurs here.

According to Edwin Cariño, Millennium Development Goals (MDG) program coordinator of the provincial government, the DA will also provide two carabaos (water buffalos) to help aid in plowing the land in preparation for vegetable production.

Aside from the planting of fruit-bearing trees such as mangoes, rambutan, lansones, and coconut among others, about a hectare of the 5.6 hectares being developed as an eco-farm is being prepared for the planting of high value vegetables depending on the season.

On the same site, about 600 pieces of orange tilapia was recently distributed in a fish cage as part of the eco-farm development courtesy of John Teodoro, Ilocos Norte Water District general manager and a consultant of the said project.

Cariño said some barangay ranger officers hired by the Ilocos Norte government are deployed in the area to help in the eco-farm development which is expected to be launched this year.

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
