Community Service Volunteer 2013- Jesse P. Pascual: UFCH Progress Award 2013 Community Service Category

For Jesse, he is always there when you ask for help in any community activities. He always shares his time, talent and treasure for the good of others.

Personal Achievements
Jesse was born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He graduated at the St. Williams College [now Divine Word College of Laoag], Laoag City, with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree. He arrived in Hawaii in 1966 seeking better opportunities

He started working at the Century Furniture at Mapunapuna St. where he was in the upholstery dept. for a month before he moved to Kahala Hilton Hotel to work as a busboy in Sept. 11, 1966 at the Hala Terrace Restaurant. He was then transferred to the Room Service department as Captain Waiter after 13 years of service. In December of same year, he received an "Employee Award".

In 1972, he joined the Saladmaster Family as a distributor for Conrad Venzon Dealership in Honolulu. In 1980, he was able to put up his own Dealership "J. and E. Marketing.  That same year Jesse among those who qualified for the "Master Dealer" position with purchase volume of more US$100,000.00 wholesale cost. In doing so he was given a free travel to Paris for two, which also included hotel stay for one week.

In 1984, joined Surety Life Insurance owned by Sears at that time under Ben Gudoy Agency. He sold one policy a day in a month, which gave him a bonus of a free trip to the Caribbean. He enjoyed the Skyward Ship where he visited five islands to visit

In August 1985, he took up the Real Estate Examination and passed.  After which he joined the real estate training class with Herbert Horita Realty. In December 1985, he got his real estate license.  After a few years, he moved to another real estate agency, as he also took more real estate courses at Graduate Realtor Institute until he retired in 2012.

And now, he joined the community, the OFCC and volunteered his time for community service projects.

He was a licensed real estate agent and served for more than 20 successful years. He raised, nurtured and supported two children who later became successful in their chosen fields. 

As a community volunteer
Jesse is a regular participant in “Feeding the Homeless” project at the Institute for Human Services [IHS] even before and after the adoption of the Resolution 2010-001 by the United Filipino Council of Hawaii, Maui Convention in 2010, as a partnership with all the Island Councils and unit organizations.

Aside from this he was also a regular volunteer for the OFCC annual election in various capacities; a participant in the Filipino Centennial Parade and the FilCom Center Filipino Fiesta Parade and float making; and a monetary donor: Ilocos Surian Medical & Homecoming Mission.

Community Service/Civic Involvements
Jesse is currently an OFCC director where he serves in various responsible capacities and committees. Jesse is always visible, available and flexible to the call of volunteer service, consistent and committed.

He is always willing, able and ready to give his time and contribution, time and money the best he can share. He is a co-chair in the Adopt-a-Highway cleanup project.

JESSE is a co-organizer, officer and elected president of the Divine Word College of Laoag College Alumni Association of Hawaii [DWCLCAAH]. He also served as DWCLCAAH adviser; director, Oahu Filipino Community Council; co-chair, OFCC Special Projects; co-Chair, OFCC Adopt a Hwy/Park; co-Chair, OFCC Ways & Means; co-organizer for the DWCL International Grand Reunion, twice; OFCC/UFCH Adopt a Hwy Clean Up Project; OFCC/UFCH Feeding the Homeless; OFCC/UFCH Graffiti Buster Project; Volunteer: Earth Day sponsored by the Farrington High School; OFCCUFCH Hawaii Food Bank Campaign Drive; US CENSUS 2010 “Filipinos Count” US Dept. of Commerce; OFCC/UFCH/COVO/FilComCenter Fundraising Drive for Typhoon Ondoy and Peping Victims.

PIDS expert says income tax cuts justified; warns gov’t of revenue loss

Proposals to amend the personal income tax schedule appear to be well-justified. However, these proposals should include measures that will allow government to recover the revenue loss from lower income taxes. Dr. Rosario Manasan, senior research fellow of state think-tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), said at a seminar sponsored by the Philippine Senate, that government should look for new revenue measures to compensate for the projected revenue loss that will arise as a result of the implementation of any of the various proposals to restructure the personal income tax. Currently, there are several income tax reform proposals pending in both houses of Congress. All of them, according to Dr. Manasan, have the same objective of addressing the phenomenon of bracket creep, which results from “non-indexation to inflation of personal income tax brackets”. Lozano of Adams, Ilocos Norte receive a resolution of commendation, a certificate of college scholarship grant to their family members and a P20,000 cash incentive each from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte represented by Governor Imee R. Marcos and Vice Governor Angelo M. Barba in recognition of their bravery and heroic acts in the Mamasapano clash in Maguindanao on January 25.
