ILLAARRDEC launches weekly S&T seminar

Batac CITY—The Ilocos Agriculture and Aquatic Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC) formally launched a weekly science and technology (S&T) seminar at the consortium’s one-stop information shop (OSIS) on October 2, 2013.

For a start, researchers and faculty members of Mariano Marcos State University MSU who are doing scientific researches, including those from the other member-agencies have participated in the first seminar on Multidisciplinary Collaborative Research in Natural Science which was delivered by Dr. Stanley C. Malab, former ILAARRDEC director.

MMSU President Miriam E. Pascua, who also chairs the consortium’s Regional Research and Coordinating Committee (RRDCC), expressed support to the activity, which is being held every Wednesday, saying that seminars like these will keep the science community abreast with the latest findings, methodologies, knowledge, information and any topic relates to S&T.

This will not only serve as forum for research managers, scientists, researchers and faculty to share their knowledge and expertise but also a venue of intellectual discussion among the participants.

“This activity promotes awareness and appreciation in developing S&T as a culture and can become an avenue of mentoring younger researchers, faculty, and students,” she said adding that the synergy it nurtures among research managers, researchers, faculty, scientists and students will create a more conducive environment for R&D collaboration, complementation and partnership.

Interim consortium director Leonardo T. Pascua who initiated the activity lauded the outcome of the first seminar because it drawn the full participation of people involved in agricultural research and development (R&D).

“Through this seminar, many fellow researchers, faculty, and students were provided with new learning and innovations in S&T which they will apply in their work,” he said.

At the close of the first seminar, Pascua invited more participants, especially MMSU students, to participate in the succeeding seminars to get new information from the experts that will be invited as resource speakers.
