IN gets steady stream of film producers for location shoots

More movie producers are lining up to have Ilocos Norte as their next film location, thanks to the provincial government’s production assistance and incentives.

June Arvin Gudoy, communications and media office (CMO) head, said producers keep on streaming in Ilocos Norte because of the hassle-free arrangements to the venue for the shooting.

Ilocos Norte provides support to film producers through its Media Incentives Desk (MID) which was put up last year.

“The desk works on the needed arrangements by a network. That way, it would be easier for them to do their work,” Gudoy said.

Reports in the past few years have shown a steady increase in on-location shooting in the province which expands Ilocos Norte’s market for the arts and media production industry.

“We had international Thai actor Mario Maurer for the film ‘Suddenly It’s Magic’ and the Metro Manila Film Festival Entry of actors Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla for the movie ‘Si Agimat, Si Enteng at Si Ako’,” Gudoy said.

“Suddenly It’s Magic” was a film produced by Star Cinema, where 70 percent of the movie was shot in Ilocos Norte, particularly in the towns of Paoay, Burgos and Pagudpud.

“The publicity and the exposure we can get from these movies (result) in savings for the advertisement of our province for purposes of tourism,” Gudoy said.

On the other hand, locals could also get an extra income since production look for “extras” to play in the project.

Other movies that were shot in Ilocos Norte were the classic Filipino film “Himala” and segments of Hollywood films such as those of “Born on the Fourth of July” and “Mad Max” shot on location in the La Paz Sand Dunes of Laoag City.

Local TV shows such as ABS-CBN’s “Kabuhayang Swak na Swak” and GMA Network’s “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” have also featured Ilocos Norte in one or more of their episodes.


Frequent sites for productions are at Paoay Church, Paoay Sand Dunes, Bangui Windmills, Patapat Viaduct in Pagudpud, the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation in Burgos, and Sitio Remedios in Currimao.

    Looks like aggressive and very nice location. I think so location has really main impact of movie economy. I saw many london film locations. Thanks for great post.

PGIN honors Ilocano heroes of past, present through Heroes Walk

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
